Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, faced significant challenges after Hurricanes Helene and Milton caused widespread damage to the course. Despite the devastation, the club managed to reopen just one week after Hurricane Milton hit. Now, the focus is on recovery efforts and supporting the community in the aftermath of the storms. The upcoming event at Pelican, The Annika driven by Gainbridge, will feature WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark playing in the pro-am alongside Nelly Korda and host Annika Sorenstam on Nov. 13.
To support hurricane recovery efforts, Pelican Golf Club and The Annika tournament have joined forces to create special “Florida Strong” T-shirts and sweatshirts. These merchandise items are available for purchase online and at the club’s pro shop during tournament week, with proceeds benefiting the Florida Disaster Fund managed by the Volunteer Florida Foundation. The shirts are priced at $40, while the sweatshirts are $65.
The damage assessment in Pinellas County following the hurricanes revealed that thousands of homes and businesses were affected by the storms. Pelican Golf Club itself lost several trees due to the 100 mph winds and heavy rainfall. Despite the challenges, Director of Golf/COO Justin Sheehan remains optimistic about the club’s recovery efforts, describing the situation as a “once-in-a-lifetime deal.”
In addition to supporting the community through merchandise sales, The Annika tournament is offering free tickets to first responders and military personnel, as well as complimentary admission for children 17 and under with a paid adult. Exclusive hospitality venues, such as the First Responders Outpost and the Hero Outpost, will be available for these groups to enjoy during the tournament.
The Annika tournament, scheduled to take place from Nov. 14-17, will feature some of the top players in the world, including defending champion Lilia Vu and world number one Nelly Korda. The event serves as a crucial opportunity for players to secure their status for the 2025 season and qualify for the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.
As Pelican Golf Club prepares to host The Annika driven by Gainbridge, the focus is on resilience, recovery, and supporting the local community in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. By coming together to raise funds for hurricane relief efforts and offering complimentary tickets to first responders, military personnel, and children, the tournament aims to make a positive impact on those affected by the recent storms. With top players from around the world competing, including superstar Caitlin Clark and defending champion Lilia Vu, the event promises to be a memorable showcase of talent and support for the Belleair community.
