LIV Golf’s Anthony Kim has made an impressive jump in the Official World Golf Rankings after finishing T37th at the Asian Tour’s International Series Qatar. Kim, who was one of 18 LIV players competing in the tournament, opened up with a one-under-par 71 and followed that up with a level-par score on Thursday. After making the cut for the first time in 12 years, Kim confidently predicted that he will be contending for titles once again, believing in himself and his abilities.
Kim’s performance in Qatar saw him collect a little over $14,500 in prize money and earn OWGR points for the first time since 2012. Although the points may seem insignificant, they moved him up over 2,200 places in the rankings, from 4,595th to 2,314th. This significant improvement demonstrates Kim’s potential and readiness to compete at a higher level after his hiatus from competitive golf.
Despite not having a top-24 finish in the LIV tournaments and missing the cut in previous events, Kim’s results steadily improved throughout the season. His best finish came at the LIV Golf Greenbrier in August, where he placed 36th. This progress was further reinforced by his T37th finish in the Asian Tour’s International Series Qatar, showcasing his determination and skill on the course.
Kim’s next tournament appearance will be at the Asian Tour’s season-ending PIF Saudi International, where he will compete against a field of 120 players, including 44 LIV golfers. The tournament features a $5 million prize purse, with players vying for the top spot in the International Series Rankings. The leader, Peter Uihlein, currently holds the position, with the potential to secure a full-time spot in the LIV Golf League next season.
The competition in the LIV Golf League is fierce, with players like John Catlin, the Asian Tour’s 2024 Order of Merit champion, aiming to secure a spot in the league through their performances in the International Series tournaments. The league offers guaranteed prize money and opportunities for players to showcase their skills on a global stage, attracting top talent like Kim, who is looking to make a comeback in the world of professional golf.
Kim’s journey back to contention for titles is a testament to his resilience and belief in his abilities as a golfer. Despite facing challenges and setbacks in recent years, he remains focused on improving his game and making an impact in the sport. With his recent performance in the Asian Tour’s International Series Qatar, Kim has shown that he has the potential to compete at a high level and achieve success in the world of golf.
