Caddington Golf Club will be shutting down

Caddington Golf Club, located in Bedfordshire, is set to close next week after being sold to a private developer. The final rounds at the club, based in Luton, will be played on October 11, with all operations ceasing after that date. Members were notified of the sale in a letter from club owners McGee Construction on September 13, outlining the closure timeline following the club’s acquisition by Storm Golf.

Club manager Ryan McGee addressed the situation, expressing his understanding of the disappointment felt by members but confirming the sale of Caddington Golf Club to Storm Golf. The closure will take effect on October 12, 2024. Members who had pre-paid their annual memberships are being refunded for the remaining portion, while those who paid monthly had their instalments ceased at the end of September. All members will have free access to the course from October 1-11.

Storm Golf has arranged a 10% discount for Caddington members to join Chalgrave Manor Golf Club in Toddington, located just north of Luton. However, this reduced fee offer is limited to the first 100 members who apply. Caddington Golf Club, founded in 1985, initially operated as a 9-hole course before expanding into a 27-hole facility in 1995. The club was known for catering to employees at the neighboring Vauxhall Motors plant and the general public before being purchased by McGee Construction Group in 2008.

The future plans for the Caddington site under Storm Golf’s ownership remain unclear, as the company lacks a history of owning or operating golf clubs and has not disclosed any plans for the property. Brothers John and Ryan McGee purchased Caddington Golf Club in 2008 and invested substantial amounts in the club’s development. The closure of Caddington marks the end of an era for the beloved golf club, which has been a fixture in the Bedfordshire community for nearly four decades.

Although the closure of Caddington Golf Club may come as a disappointment to its members and the local community, the decision to sell the property to Storm Golf signifies a new chapter for the site. While the specifics of Storm Golf’s plans for the land remain unknown, the company’s acquisition of the club opens up the possibility for future development and opportunities in the area. As the final rounds at Caddington draw near, members have been given the chance to reflect on the memories and experiences shared at the club over the years.

With the closure of Caddington Golf Club on the horizon, members have been adjusting to the news and making arrangements for their future golfing activities. The opportunity to join Chalgrave Manor Golf Club at a discounted rate offers a silver lining for former Caddington members looking to continue their passion for the sport. While the sale of the club may mark the end of an era, it also paves the way for new beginnings and possibilities for the property under Storm Golf’s ownership.

As Caddington Golf Club prepares to close its doors for the last time, the community will bid farewell to a cherished establishment that has played a significant role in the local golfing scene for many years. The legacy of Caddington Golf Club will live on through the memories and experiences shared by its members and supporters, who have formed lasting connections and friendships at the club. While the closure may mark the end of a chapter, it also sets the stage for future ventures and endeavors on the site under new ownership.
