Doubts surrounding tour stars’ ability to stop Scottie Scheffler’s dominant FedEx Cup performance

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is dominating the Tour Championship with a commanding lead, leaving the rest of the PGA Tour’s best players sounding doubtful about their chances of catching up. After a historic stretch of wins earlier in the season, including his second Masters title, Scheffler has been the favorite to win the FedEx Cup all season long. His lead at the Tour Championship, combined with his exceptional performance in the first two rounds, has left other players wondering if they can stop him.

Xander Schauffele, who won two majors this season, briefly challenged Scheffler’s lead for the Player of the Year and FedEx Cup titles. However, Scheffler quickly shut down any doubts with a gold-medal win at the Olympics in August. Heading into the Tour Championship, Scheffler still holds the top spot, starting with a score of 10 under, giving him a significant advantage over the rest of the field.

Despite some players putting up impressive numbers in the early rounds, including Collin Morikawa beating Scheffler by three shots in round two, the gap remains significant. Other players like Sam Burns and Wyndham Clark acknowledge the challenge of catching up to Scheffler, with Burns admitting that he does not expect Scheffler to falter. The general sentiment among players is that Scheffler’s lead is formidable, and it will take an exceptional performance to close the gap and have a chance at victory.

Even though Scheffler seems poised to win the FedEx Cup, there is still $75 million up for grabs in the bonus pool aside from the $25 million top prize. Players recognize the value of finishing in the top positions despite the slim chances of overtaking Scheffler. With players like Schauffele acknowledging the uphill battle they face in catching up to Scheffler, the focus now shifts to securing a top finish and a piece of the remaining bonus pool money.

As the competition heats up at the Tour Championship, players are preparing for a challenging task ahead in trying to catch up to Scottie Scheffler. With the top spot seemingly out of reach for many players, the focus now shifts to securing a strong finish and a share of the remaining bonus pool money. Scheffler’s dominant performance so far has solidified his position as the favorite to win the FedEx Cup, leaving the rest of the field to battle for the remaining prize money and valuable finishes in the tournament.
