Eric Axley, a golfer participating in the Monday qualifier for the PGA Tour Champions event, is moving into the main field after hitting one of golf’s rarest shots. Along with two other golfers, Axley shot a 66 to finish a shot behind Kris Blanks, securing a spot in the 2024 Constellation Furyk & Friends at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida. Axley’s remarkable shot occurred on the 17th hole, where he made an albatross to jump a handful of golfers and secure his spot this week.

Having recently turned 50 in April, Axley has only played in a few senior circuit events this summer. With one PGA Tour victory at the 2006 Valero Texas Open and two Korn Ferry Tour wins, Axley is among the 16 left-handers to win on the PGA Tour. Despite his success, he fell short in his bid for full status on the Champions tour in 2024 after competing in Q School last November.

The odds of making an albatross, also known as a double eagle, are about 6 million to 1 for the average golfer and approximately a million to 1 for a professional like Axley. His incredible shot on the 17th hole not only showcased his skill and precision but also solidified his spot in this week’s event. Axley’s perseverance and determination have paid off, allowing him to continue competing at a high level in the golfing world.

With his impressive resume and experience on various tours, Axley’s journey to the main field of the PGA Tour Champions event is a testament to his talent and dedication to the sport. His success at the Monday qualifier highlights the unpredictability and excitement that comes with the game of golf. Axley’s remarkable shot and subsequent advancement serve as inspiration for golfers of all levels, showcasing the possibilities that can come from hard work and skill in the sport.

As one of the three golfers moving on to the main field, Axley’s story stands out as the most remarkable, with his albatross on the 17th hole proving to be the turning point in securing his spot. His background as a PGA Tour winner and Korn Ferry Tour champion adds to the intrigue of his journey to the PGA Tour Champions event this week. Axley’s determination and resilience in the face of adversity have propelled him to new heights in his golfing career, setting an example for aspiring golfers to never give up on their dreams.

In conclusion, Eric Axley’s journey from the Monday qualifier to the main field of the PGA Tour Champions event is a testament to his skill, perseverance, and ability to seize the moment when it matters most. His memorable albatross on the 17th hole solidified his spot in this week’s event and added another chapter to his already impressive golfing career. As he prepares to compete against some of the best in the sport, Axley’s story serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of golf and the opportunities that can arise when least expected.
