Find out if your golf stance is too wide with this quick and easy test

In the world of golf swing fundamentals, one crucial element to consider is stance width. GOLF Top 100 Teacher Jason Baile has come up with a simple test to help golfers determine if their stance width is appropriate for their body type. In a video posted on Titleist’s YouTube page, Baile demonstrates how easy it is to ensure that your stance is the correct width.

Baile recommends starting by getting into a stance and posture that feels stable and athletic. He suggests feeling like you could play any sport, such as basketball or baseball, in this stance. After finding an athletic stance, place a golf club on your thighs and make a turn towards the target. Your upper thighs should be able to touch, or “kiss,” as you turn and follow through on your swing.

If your thighs are too far apart to kiss, Baile suggests narrowing your stance. By narrowing his stance, he is able to easily turn, kiss his thighs, and feel much better balance in his swing. The key to finding the perfect stance is to be wide enough to feel athletic, but narrow enough to maintain stability and balance on the follow-through.

Once you have sorted out your stance width, other fundamentals like ball position and posture can more easily fall into place. By giving Baile’s test a try during your next practice session, you can become a more athletic and powerful golfer. Watch the full video of Baile’s tip on Titleist’s YouTube page to see the demonstration in action.

Jessica Marksbury, a four-year member of Columbia’s inaugural class of female varsity golfers and Golf.com Editor, emphasizes the importance of stance width in golf swing fundamentals. Baile’s simple test can help golfers of all levels improve their stability and balance in their stance. By ensuring that your stance is wide enough to feel athletic but narrow enough to maintain stability, you can improve your overall golf performance.

Baile’s stance width test is an effective way to check and adjust your positioning in order to enhance your golf swing. By following his steps and making the necessary adjustments, you can improve your balance, stability, and power in your swing. By incorporating this test into your practice routine, you can fine-tune your stance and improve your overall performance on the golf course.

Golfers looking to improve their swing mechanics should consider paying attention to their stance width. Baile’s test provides a simple and effective way to assess and correct your stance for better performance. By following his recommendations and making adjustments as needed, you can optimize your stance for improved balance, stability, and power in your swing. Incorporating this test into your practice routine can help you become a more athletic and powerful golfer.
