Frankie Capan III has had a memorable Sunday after clinching a top 30 spot on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List, securing his 2025 PGA Tour card. The former Florida Gulf Coast University golfer, originally from Stillwater, Minnesota, is the first from his state in nearly a decade to reach the PGA Tour. Growing up, he split his time between Minnesota and Phoenix, where he played high school golf at Northwest Christian School and won the 2018 Arizona state championship by an impressive 10 strokes, shooting a 59 in the final round.

Before transferring to FGCU for his final two collegiate seasons, Capan began his career at the University of Alabama. He helped the Eagles’ men’s golf team make history by earning an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament in 2022. Capan has accumulated an impressive career scoring average of 72.35, which still ranks among the top five in FGCU history. After forgoing an extra season of eligibility, he decided to pursue a professional golf career.

In the 2024 Korn Ferry season, Capan currently sits at 14th on the Tour’s Points List with two events remaining. Throughout the year, he has notched five top-10 finishes and two runner-up placements, losing in a playoff to Harry Higgs and finishing three shots behind Max McGreevy in recent tournaments. Capan also made history by shooting a 13-under 58 in the opening round of the Veritex Bank Championships, breaking a course record set by Scottie Scheffler.

During his time on the Korn Ferry Tour, Capan has earned nearly $350,000 this season and over $580,000 in his two years on the circuit. He is the 14th player on the KFT to secure PGA Tour status for the upcoming season, with a total of 30 cards available. Despite only qualifying for four PGA Tour events in his career so far, Capan has made the cut twice, finishing T-62 at the 3M Open and T-41 at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst in June.

Derek Lamely, a member of the first FGCU men’s golf team in 2000-01, also earned his PGA Tour card in 2010. Lamely, who was inducted into the FGCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023, secured his spot on the tour by winning the 2010 Puerto Rico Open in his rookie season. Capan follows in Lamely’s footsteps as the second FGCU alum to earn a PGA Tour card, showcasing the university’s success in developing talented golfers.
