Gary Woodland, the 2019 U.S. Open champion, has faced a difficult journey back to the PGA Tour following the removal of a brain tumor in 2023. In 2024, Woodland struggled with headaches and overstimulation while trying to compete in tournament golf. However, with the support of his wife Gabby, he has been able to find solutions to manage his condition and continue playing on the tour. This included using breathing techniques and medication to help slow down his brain when it becomes too overstimulated.

Despite the challenges he faced in 2024, Woodland is feeling optimistic about his game in 2025. He has already posted three top-25 finishes in four events and is managing his new normal well. Woodland is determined not to let his condition stop him from pursuing his dreams, both on and off the golf course. He received the PGA Tour’s Courage Award for his perseverance in overcoming adversity and making a meaningful contribution to the game.

Woodland admits that he probably should not have played in 2024 and could have taken a medical exemption to return in 2025. However, he believes that playing last year helped him understand what he needed to do to manage his condition and optimize his performance on the course. With the support of his wife and the guidance of specialists, Woodland has found ways to calm his brain, settle his nervous system, and live the life he wants.

Throughout his struggles in 2024, Gabby played a crucial role in supporting Woodland. She allowed him to vent and complain about his difficulties, but also encouraged him to find solutions to overcome them. Together, they sought out different specialists until they found a way for Woodland to function in his daily life and spend quality time with his family. Woodland now feels hopeful and motivated every day, knowing that he has the tools to manage his condition and continue pursuing his goals.

Woodland’s story is a testament to courage and perseverance in the face of adversity. Despite the challenges he has faced, he remains determined to push through and achieve his dreams. With the support of his wife, specialists, and the golf community, Woodland is gradually making progress towards rediscovering his form on the course and finding a new normal in his personal life. His journey serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges and highlights the importance of resilience and determination in overcoming obstacles.

In conclusion, Gary Woodland’s story is one of resilience, courage, and hope. Despite facing a major health setback in 2023, he has worked tirelessly to find solutions and continue pursuing his passion for golf. With the support of his wife and the guidance of specialists, Woodland has been able to manage his condition and make significant progress in his game. His determination to overcome adversity serves as an inspiration to others and highlights the importance of perseverance in achieving one’s goals. Woodland’s journey is a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the ability to overcome challenges with resilience and determination.
