Byeong Hun An secured his first win on the European circuit in almost 10 years by beating fellow South Korean Tom Kim in a play-off at the Genesis Championship. The tournament at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club saw a close competition with birdies dropping in from the start, resulting in six players holding the lead at various points. The leaderboard saw constant changes until Kim took a one-shot lead heading into the last hole, only to be matched by An with a birdie on the final hole to force a play-off.

In the play-off, both players took risky shots but Kim ended up in a difficult position, shooting into the main stand with his third shot and carding a bogey. An seized the opportunity, calmly sinking a putt to secure his victory. An expressed his happiness at the win, stating that it had been too long since his last victory on the tour. Ricardo Gouveia and Antoine Rozner also performed well, finishing in the top three, while Marco Penge secured his DP World Tour card for next season with a solid performance throughout the week.

Ivan Cantero, who started the tournament below the cut-off line, impressed with consistent under par rounds to finish in a tie for sixth and climb into the top 100 in the Race to Dubai Rankings. Other notable finishes included Guido Migliozzi with a flawless final round of 65 and Francesco Laporta, who finished two shots behind the leaders. Players like Ashun Wu, Santiago Tarrio, David Law, and Eddie Pepperell finished just outside the cut off point for next season’s tour card, while Soren Kjeldsen closed out his final full season on the European Tour as he transitions to seniors golf.

Søren Kjeldsen, with four wins on the European Tour and a World Cup of Golf win in 2017, closed out his 26th consecutive season on the European Tour with a solid performance. The 49-year-old Dane will now focus on playing seniors golf on the Legends Tour and PGA Tour Champions next year. Kjeldsen joins a select group of players who have made 700 or more appearances on the European Tour, a testament to his longevity and consistency in professional golf. With only David Howell and Miguel Angel Jimenez ahead of him in terms of appearances, Kjeldsen looks forward to a new chapter in his golf career.
