The 2024 U.S. Amateur Golf Tournament has reached the semifinal stage, with two Americans and two Spaniards remaining in contention. The final match will see an American player facing off against a Spanish player, but the specific matchups will be decided in the upcoming semifinals. The stakes are high in this tournament, as the winner will receive an exemption into the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush, along with invitations to the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont and a likely one to the 2025 Masters. This added incentive will surely be on the minds of the players competing in the semifinals.

In the first semifinal matchup, Noah Kent from Naples, Florida, will take on Jackson Buchanan from Dacula, Georgia. Kent, the lowest-ranked player in the field, has been in dominant form since Tuesday, impressively winning his matches and not even needing to play the 18th hole. Buchanan, on the other hand, is a rising senior at Illinois and ranked 17th in the world. He has already defeated the top-ranked player in the tournament and will provide a tough challenge for Kent in the semifinals.

The second semifinal will feature two Spaniards, Jose Luis Ballester and Luis Masaveu. These two players are familiar with each other’s games, having known each other for nearly a decade and played together on the Spanish National Team. Ballester, ranked 10th in the world, is a rising senior at Arizona State and has already sent home a mid-am from match play. Masaveu, the only non-collegiate player in the semis, has a busy schedule overseas and recently made the cut at the Open Championship. Their competitive history adds to the intrigue of this matchup.

The semifinals of the U.S. Amateur will take place at Hazeltine National Golf Club, with the action starting at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday. Golf Channel will broadcast the matches from 3-6 p.m. ET, allowing fans to follow the tournament’s thrilling conclusion. With the opportunity to secure a spot in prestigious upcoming tournaments like the Open Championship, U.S. Open, and the Masters, the semifinalists will be motivated to perform at their best and secure a place in Sunday’s final.

Noah Kent, with his impressive performance and dominant run in the tournament so far, will look to continue his winning streak in the semifinals against Jackson Buchanan. The clash between these two talented American players promises to be exciting and closely contested, with both players aiming to secure a spot in the final match. In the other semifinal matchup, the two Spanish players, Jose Luis Ballester and Luis Masaveu, will bring their competitive history and skill to the course as they battle for a chance to compete for the U.S. Amateur title.

As the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur approach, golf fans and players alike are eagerly anticipating the thrilling conclusion of the tournament. With a mix of American and Spanish talent vying for a spot in the final, the stage is set for intense and exciting matchups. The opportunity to earn exemptions into prestigious tournaments and make a mark on the amateur golf circuit will undoubtedly motivate the players to give their best performances. Stay tuned to see which players will emerge victorious and compete in the championship match of the 2024 U.S. Amateur.
