Celebrating Golfweek’s 50th Anniversary: Memories with Cassie (Stein) Fracassi

As Golfweek commemorates its 50th anniversary, we are taking a nostalgic journey with some of the talented individuals who contributed to the magazine’s legacy. In this installment, we feature Cassie (Stein) Fracassi, who played a pivotal role in reporting on the emergence of talented college and amateur golfers during the blossoming social media era.

When Did Cassie Work at Golfweek?

Cassie was part of the Golfweek team from 2012 to 2015.

Cassie’s Role at Golfweek

Title: Golfweek Editor
Responsibilities: Cassie began her career as an editor and expanded her role by managing social media initiatives. She transitioned to cover junior and collegiate golf, as well as the amateur golf scene.

Current Position

Title: Proposal Writer/Coordinator
Company: Sevenson Environmental

Proudest Moment at Golfweek

One of Cassie’s most cherished memories was the moment her first article was published in the magazine. “Growing up reading Golfweek, seeing my name and article in print was incredibly rewarding,” she recalls. “That piece is still framed in my parents’ house today.”

Memorable ‘Hair-on-Fire’ Moments

Cassie recounts a couple of intense experiences that stand out vividly in her memory:

  1. Driving through a Tornado: On a particularly hectic Sunday, she faced treacherous weather while driving to work, only to arrive and discover the power was out, making for a long night as deadlines loomed.

  2. Technical Malfunction: In another late-night scenario, Cassie lost all of her aggregate scoring leaderboards when her laptop crashed just before finishing. The tension in the office was palpable as her team worked late to recover.

Favorite Golf Course

Course: Sage Valley
Why: Cassie describes Sage Valley as a prestigious course located in the Augusta area. Attending the inaugural Sage Valley Invitational was a highlight that allowed her to connect with many of today’s professional golfers.

Editor’s Note: We extend our gratitude to all former employees who have contributed their time and insights to this commemorative series. The golf journalism community is tightly-knit, and we take pride in celebrating the achievements of our former colleagues.

This article celebrates the memories and contributions of Cassie (Stein) Fracassi, perfectly encapsulating the spirit of Golfweek as it marks 50 years of golf journalism excellence.
