WM Phoenix Open winner Thomas Detry recently showcased his skills on the course with an impressive victory. Throughout the tournament, Detry relied on his trusty Callaway Epic 2-hybrid, which has been a staple in his bag for many years. Despite the club’s age, Detry found success with it, utilizing its forgiveness and ability to self-correct his misses to his advantage.

The Callaway Epic 2-hybrid was originally released in 2017 and was one of the first hybrids to incorporate a carbon crown, allowing weight to be redistributed lower and towards the perimeter of the club. This design feature, combined with a Metal Injection Molded tungsten weight at the bottom of the club, lowered the center of gravity and made it easier for Detry to launch the ball. Additionally, the adjustable hosel on the hybrid allowed Detry to fine-tune his loft and ball flight preferences.

Detry’s caddie, Lee Warne, attested to the versatility of the Epic 2-hybrid, noting that Detry can manipulate the club to achieve distances ranging from 245 to 260 yards. Despite the pressure from Detry’s equipment sponsor to test newer clubs, the duo remains loyal to the Epic 2-hybrid, as it consistently delivers the performance they desire. Callaway Tour rep Johnny Thompson acknowledged Detry’s unwavering trust in the club, stating that there is no need to fix what isn’t broken when a player feels comfortable and confident with their equipment.

For players looking to update their bag for the new year, True Spec Golf offers fitting locations to ensure that each club in the bag is tailored to individual preferences and playing style. With the right equipment, players can optimize their performance on the course and achieve greater success in their game. Detry’s experience with the Callaway Epic 2-hybrid serves as a reminder that sometimes the oldest club in the bag can be the most reliable and effective, showcasing the importance of finding the right tools for success in golf.
