John Daly II, the son of two-time major champion John Daly, recently qualified to compete in his first U.S. Amateur tournament at Hazeltine National. Just a month after his debut in a professional event, Daly II shot a two-under 68 at Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas, earning him a spot among 312 participants in the prestigious tournament. His stellar performance in the Final Qualifying event secured him a place in the field, where he will compete against some of the top amateur golfers in the country.

Prior to his U.S. Amateur qualification, Daly II played in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Compliance Solutions Championship as an amateur, where he gained valuable experience in a professional setting. While he did not make the cut in that event, Daly II showcased his skills and determination, setting the stage for his successful qualification for the U.S. Amateur. His father, John Daly, who previously competed at Hazeltine National in two PGA Championships, expressed his pride and support for his son’s accomplishment on social media.

Daly II recently completed his redshirt sophomore season at the University of Arkansas, where his father was once an All-American golfer in the 1980s. With a scoring average of 71.78 and several top-20 finishes throughout the season, Daly II demonstrated his talent and potential as a rising star in the world of golf. His participation in the upcoming U.S. Amateur tournament serves as another opportunity for him to showcase his skills and compete at a high level against top amateur golfers from around the country.

The U.S. Amateur tournament is scheduled to take place from August 12-18, featuring 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying to determine the 64 players who will advance to the match-play bracket. The stroke-play rounds will be held at both Hazeltine National and Chaska Town Course, with the match-play portion of the event exclusively at Hazeltine. Daly II will have the chance to test his abilities and compete against elite competition in a challenging and prestigious tournament setting, furthering his growth and development as a golfer.

Overall, Daly II’s qualification for the U.S. Amateur is a significant milestone in his young career, showcasing his talent and potential as a competitive golfer. With his strong performance in the Final Qualifying event and his experience at the collegiate and professional levels, Daly II is poised to make an impact at the upcoming tournament and continue his trajectory as a rising star in the world of golf. As he prepares to compete at Hazeltine National against some of the top amateur golfers in the country, Daly II will have the opportunity to shine on a national stage and further solidify his presence in the golfing community.
