Jon Rahm, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, had to withdraw from the LIV Golf event in Houston just five days before the start of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 due to a foot injury. Despite limping slightly during his first-round 69 at the Golf Club of Houston, Rahm played six holes on Saturday before deciding to withdraw. LIV Golf confirmed the WD in a video posted on X showing Rahm shaking hands with his group before leaving the course.

The withdrawal may have been precautionary for Rahm, who was reportedly dealing with a cut or cuts between his toes. Rahm, who is in his first year on LIV Golf after leaving the PGA Tour in December, has performed well on the circuit with top-10 finishes in all seven starts, including four top-5s. However, in this year’s majors, he has struggled, tying for 44th in the Masters and missing the cut in the PGA Championship at Valhalla.

Rahm’s withdrawal raises questions about his fitness ahead of the upcoming U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. As the defending champion, Rahm was expected to be one of the top contenders at the prestigious tournament. His performance at Pinehurst No. 2 will be closely watched by fans and pundits to see if he can overcome his foot injury and compete at the highest level.

Despite Rahm’s recent struggles in the majors, he has shown his talent and potential to contend on the biggest stages. His victory at the 2021 U.S. Open demonstrated his ability to handle pressure and perform under challenging conditions. Rahm’s withdrawal in Houston may be a setback, but he has the resilience and determination to bounce back and prove himself once again at the U.S. Open.

As one of the top players in the world, Rahm’s presence at the U.S. Open adds excitement and anticipation to the tournament. His performance will be closely monitored by fans and analysts to see if he can recapture the form that led to his U.S. Open victory last year. Rahm’s withdrawal in Houston may be a temporary setback, but his talent and determination make him a formidable competitor on the golf course.

In conclusion, Jon Rahm’s withdrawal from the LIV Golf event in Houston due to a foot injury raises concerns about his fitness and form ahead of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. Despite his struggles in this year’s majors, Rahm has shown his ability to compete at the highest level and overcome challenges. Fans and pundits will be eager to see how Rahm performs at the U.S. Open and whether he can defend his title. Rahm’s withdrawal may be a setback, but it also presents an opportunity for him to demonstrate his resilience and determination on the golf course.
