Jordan Spieth explains why he is not currently considering TGL as an option

The TGL, co-founded by golf legends Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is gaining positive momentum as it moves into the second half of its inaugural season. With a roster of 24 of the world’s best golfers, the simulator golf league has a lot of potential. However, there are some marquee faces missing from the TGL roster, with Jordan Spieth being the headline player not signed up for the venture. Spieth cited the challenge of his schedule, living in Dallas, and having two young children as reasons for not joining the league at this time. Despite this, Spieth finds the concept of TGL exciting and believes it is another way to grow the game of golf.

The TGL recently hosted a triple-header event that was incredibly engaging and electric. The league’s ability to keep up this momentum and excitement will be crucial for its success moving forward. TGL has shown itself to be nimble and adaptable during its inaugural season, making changes as needed. One such change was the signing of Tony Finau by Los Angeles Golf Club to a one-match contract due to prior engagements of other players. TGL has also hinted at potential expansion after the first season, with talks of new franchises, new players, and players changing teams.

Despite not currently being a part of TGL, Spieth has been asked to sub in by a couple of players. However, he still sees scheduling conflicts as a significant barrier to his participation. Spieth mentioned that a Dallas team, including himself, Scottie Scheffler, Will Zalatoris, and Tom Kim, could potentially join TGL if a venue was located in Dallas. Mike McCarley, the co-founder of TMRW Sports along with Woods and McIlroy, has hinted at the possibility of expansion to new venues in the future. Adding Spieth and Scheffler to TGL’s roster could be a priority for future seasons.

As the Golf.com Editor, Josh Schrock has been closely following and reporting on the developments of TGL and its impact on the world of golf. With a background covering sports teams like the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers, Schrock brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to his golf reporting. He is passionate about the game of golf and is dedicated to providing in-depth coverage of events like TGL and the players involved. Schrock can be reached for further insights and analysis on golf-related topics.

In conclusion, while Jordan Spieth may not currently be a part of the TGL roster, his interest in the league and its potential for growing the game of golf is evident. The TGL’s recent success and momentum during its inaugural season bode well for its future, with potential for expansion to new venues and the addition of key players like Spieth and Scheffler. As TGL continues to evolve and make changes based on player feedback, the league’s ability to adapt and keep fans engaged will be crucial. With golf enthusiasts like Josh Schrock closely following and reporting on TGL’s progress, fans can expect more exciting developments from the league in the future.
