Justin Thomas recently ended his nearly three-year winless drought on the PGA Tour by capturing the title at the 2025 RBC Heritage. A critical factor in his victory was a gear change he made earlier in the season, specifically with his driver. Prior to his win, Thomas was using the Titleist TSR3 driver, which, while providing great feel and performance when struck well, was less forgiving on off-center hits, leading to wayward tee shots. The switch he made to the Titleist GT2 driver, paired with a Mitsubishi Diamana Prototype shaft, proved to be a game-changer for Thomas. This new setup offered higher launch and increased ball speed, addressing his previous challenges with driving accuracy.

One of Thomas’s personal goals for the 2025 season was to hit 60 percent of fairways, a milestone he had yet to achieve in his career. With the GT2 driver in play, he showcased marked improvements in his driving accuracy at the RBC Heritage, hitting 64 percent of fairways and gaining significant distance off the tee. The driver’s design, focusing on speed and forgiveness across the face, allowed Thomas to feel more confident and consistent with his tee shots, an essential component of his overall performance.

The GT2 driver from Titleist features several key elements that cater to players who require stability and speed without sacrificing forgiveness. With a focus on maximizing performance through forgiving design, the GT2 driver boasts a seamless Thermoform Crown and Split Mass Construction to optimize stability, speed, and spin. These advancements in driver technology contributed to Thomas’s increased trust in his tee shots and the newfound confidence he exhibited during the RBC Heritage tournament.

In contrast to the GT2 driver, Thomas had also tested the GT3 driver as a potential replacement for the TSR3. However, he found that the GT3 did not provide him with the desired height and margin for error, ultimately opting for the GT2 for its high-launching fade and forgiveness characteristics. The GT2’s lower spin and higher launch profile, combined with its higher MOI, perfectly suited Thomas’s playing style as an aggressive, high-speed player who values forgiveness on off-center hits.

Thomas’s enhanced performance and victory at the RBC Heritage not only marked a significant milestone in his career but also sent a clear message to his competitors. With his newfound confidence and success with the GT2 driver, Thomas is poised for further achievements in the 2025 season, potentially setting the stage for a major title win. By mastering his equipment and optimizing his driving accuracy, Thomas has positioned himself as a formidable contender on the PGA Tour, inspiring aspiring golfers to invest in precision club-fitting and cutting-edge technology for a competitive edge.
