Keegan Bradley named captain of 2025 US Ryder Cup team

Keegan Bradley, known for being on two losing US Ryder Cup teams in 2012 and 2014, has been announced as the US Ryder Cup captain for the 2025 matches to be held at Bethpage Black in New York. Bradley’s appointment came as a surprise, with many expecting Tiger Woods to be selected for the role. However, Woods declined the captaincy due to his involvement in negotiations between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, which would demand too much of his time leading up to the matches.

Despite requesting to reduce his commitments, Woods was unable to reach a compromise with the PGA of America’s Ryder Cup committee and will likely captain the US team at the away leg at Adare Manor in Ireland in 2027, when he will be 50 years old. Bradley, on the other hand, at just 38 years old, will be the youngest player to ever captain the US Ryder Cup team. Having participated in two previous Ryder Cups, Bradley is no stranger to the intense pressure of the competition, with a personal points tally of 4 points from seven matches.

Expressing his gratitude and excitement for the opportunity, Bradley stated, “My passion and appreciation for golf’s greatest team event have never been stronger”. Having won the PGA Championship in 2011 and twice on the PGA Tour in 2023, Bradley is ready to lead the US team to victory at the 2025 Ryder Cup. He acknowledged the unique nature of the Ryder Cup as a team competition and looks forward to the challenge of preparing for the event at Bethpage Black.

With Tiger Woods ruling himself out of the captaincy for 2025 due to his off-course commitments as a member of the PGA Tour’s Policy Board, Keegan Bradley has stepped up to lead the US team to victory. As the youngest player to ever captain the US Ryder Cup team, Bradley brings a fresh perspective and a deep appreciation for the competition. His experience on previous Ryder Cup teams and success on the PGA Tour make him a strong contender for the role.

The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black is expected to be a particularly special event, with enthusiastic spectators and a rich history surrounding the iconic course. Bradley’s leadership will be crucial in guiding the US team to success against tough competition from Europe. With his passion for the game and the Ryder Cup event, Bradley is poised to make a lasting impact as he begins preparations for the 2025 matches.

In conclusion, Keegan Bradley’s appointment as the US Ryder Cup captain for 2025 brings an exciting new chapter to the prestigious competition. With Tiger Woods deferring the role due to his off-course commitments, Bradley steps in as a dedicated and experienced leader. His enthusiasm for the Ryder Cup and his proven track record in professional golf make him a formidable captain. The road to victory at Bethpage Black will undoubtedly be challenging, but with Bradley at the helm, the US team is in good hands.
