Key Changes and LIV Implications in the PGA Tour’s 2025 Schedule Release

The 2025 PGA Tour schedule was announced by commissioner Jay Monahan in Memphis during the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The schedule for 2025 doesn’t see many changes from the previous year, with Monahan stating that not much is changing. The schedule consists of 36 regular season events along with the three-event FedEx Cup Playoffs, running from January to August.

The 2025 schedule includes the four major championships, the Players Championship, eight additional Signature Events, 18 full-field PGA Tour events, and five opposite-field events now called “Additional Events.” The Tour emphasized that the schedule is fully sponsored, refuting any notion of trouble with tournament sponsors. The 2025 schedule marks the second year of the reimagined schedule.

There are some notable changes in the major championships for 2025. The Masters will be held at Augusta National, the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, and the Open Championship returns to Royal Portrush. The Wells Fargo Championship has been rebranded as the Truist Championship, with Truist signing a seven-year deal to sponsor the event.

The PGA Tour has made changes to the location of some events, such as the RBC Canadian Open moving to TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley for the first time. The golf schedule for 2025 also features the ISCO Championship at Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville and the BMW Championship at Caves Valley in Owings Mills.

Despite ongoing negotiations with LIV’s backers, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, there hasn’t been significant progress towards a deal. Monahan remains optimistic about the future of the PGA Tour but refrains from sharing specific details about the negotiations. Players like Patrick Cantlay and Rory McIlroy have noted a lack of recent updates on the matter, hinting at a stalled conversation between the Tour and LIV.

Overall, the 2025 PGA Tour schedule offers stability and continuity, with minor changes to event locations and sponsorships. While the negotiations with LIV continue, the focus remains on delivering an exciting golf season for fans and players alike. The upcoming season showcases a lineup of prestigious events and tournaments, building on the success of the previous year.
