In one of the most unusual finishes in recent golf history, Matt Kuchar found himself as the lone player teeing off on Monday morning to complete his final round at the 2024 Wyndham Championship. The other players had finished their rounds the day before, with eventual winner Aaron Rai already celebrating his victory on the 18th green. Kuchar, who was in a tie for 12th place, had initially decided not to finish his round on Sunday due to the growing darkness but ultimately returned on Monday to complete his round.

The decision to allow Kuchar to finish on Monday was a unique one, as there was no official suspension of play due to darkness. Kuchar’s group had the option to finish their rounds the next day, but only Kuchar chose to do so. Despite the unconventional circumstances, Kuchar managed to finish his round with a par on the 18th hole, salvaging a tie for 12th place and earning $144,965 in prize money.

Reflecting on the situation, Kuchar expressed regret for being the player who did not finish his round on time. He acknowledged the inconvenience it caused for tournament officials and spectators who had to return on Monday morning to watch him play a single hole. Despite the criticism he received for his decision, Kuchar remained focused on the game and avoided engaging with social media reactions.

With his tie for 12th place at the Wyndham Championship, Kuchar added another substantial paycheck to his career earnings on the PGA Tour, which now stand at an impressive $59,932,212. Despite the financial rewards, Kuchar’s main focus was on the integrity of the game and the respect for his fellow players and tournament officials. Despite the unusual circumstances, Kuchar remained professional and completed his round with dignity.

Kuchar’s decision to finish his round on Monday may have stirred up controversy among golf enthusiasts, but his commitment to the game and respect for the rules of the tour were evident. With the 2024 Wyndham Championship now officially concluded, players and fans alike can reflect on this unique finish and the sportsmanship displayed by Kuchar throughout the tournament. As the PGA Tour moves forward, Kuchar’s experience at Sedgefield Country Club will surely be remembered as one of the most memorable moments in recent golf history.
