Lee Trevino, a legendary golfer, attended the Simmons Bank Championship and shared his thoughts on equipment deals in today’s golf world. He joked about coming along too early in his career in reference to the money professionals are now making on both the LIV Golf and PGA Tour. Trevino also highlighted the evolution of endorsement deals with equipment companies, emphasizing how lucrative they have become over the years. At the tournament, Trevino was asked about which clubs or balls he would use if he had a contract in today’s golf world, sparking an interesting conversation about the competitive nature of equipment companies and the amount of money and prestige involved in the sport.

During the Simmons Bank Championship at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock, Arkansas, Trevino shared his perspective on the quality of golf clubs available in the current market. He acknowledged the advancements in club technology and the competitiveness between different companies to offer the best products to professional golfers. Trevino also reflected on his own career, mentioning how he used to try multiple club brands before eventually signing with Top Flite and Spalding in 1971. Despite the opportunities presented by lucrative gear contracts, Trevino expressed a preference for remaining a gear-free agent, similar to notable players like Brooks Koepka and Adam Scott.

Trevino recounted an instance in Japan where he endorsed a golf ball called Flawless, which ultimately did not perform as well as expected. This experience taught him the importance of not compromising on gear quality for the sake of money. Despite facing challenges with specific brands or products during his career, Trevino managed to achieve considerable success, with 29 PGA Tour wins and six major titles to his name. His accomplishments on the golf course ultimately landed him a spot in the World Golf Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy as one of the sport’s greatest players.

His reflections on past experiences and career choices provide valuable lessons for aspiring professional golfers and enthusiasts. By sharing his personal anecdotes and opinions, Trevino offers a unique perspective on the importance of quality gear and the impact of endorsement deals in the golfing world.
