The PGA Championship concluded with Xander Schauffele winning the Wanamaker Trophy after a thrilling 72nd-hole birdie to beat Bryson DeChambeau. The focus now shifts to the upcoming 2024 U.S. Open, set to take place at Pinehurst No. 2 in June. This will be the fourth time the course has hosted the national championship, with previous winners including Payne Stewart in 1999, Michael Campbell in 2005, and Martin Kaymer in 2014. Pinehurst has also been named as the site for future U.S. Open events in 2029, 2035, 2041, and 2047.

The USGA prides itself on the democratic nature of the U.S. Open, allowing any professional or amateur with a 0.4 handicap index to enter. This year, 10,052 participants entered, with around half of the 156-player field earning their spots through qualifying rounds. The USGA recently completed its Local Qualifiers and is now preparing for the 36-hole Final Qualifiers at 13 sites worldwide. The remaining field consists of players who earned their spots through 23 fully exempt categories.

The 2024 U.S. Open will feature 84 officially confirmed players so far, including defending champion Wyndham Clark and Tiger Woods, who received a special exemption. Additional spots will be filled in the coming weeks, with players in the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking as of June 11 automatically gaining entry. The NCAA men’s D-I individual champion will also qualify for the event, further adding to the competitive field.

The list of qualified players for the U.S. Open includes a mix of seasoned professionals and rising stars, with more names expected to be added as the exempt spots are filled. The competition will be fierce, with a range of players vying for the championship title. The USGA has put in place a comprehensive qualifying system to ensure that the best of the best compete in this prestigious event, further cementing the U.S. Open’s reputation as one of golf’s most prestigious tournaments.

A variety of exemptions have been granted to players from different backgrounds and accomplishments, including winners of past U.S. Open championships, major tournaments, and top performers in various golf events. The list of exempt players showcases the diversity and talent that will be on display at Pinehurst No. 2 in June. With a mix of established pros and up-and-coming talents, the 2024 U.S. Open promises to be a captivating event for golf fans worldwide.

In addition to the qualified players, the U.S. Open will also feature special exemptions selected by the USGA, adding further intrigue to the tournament. These special exemptions reflect the USGA’s commitment to showcasing a diverse and competitive field in this prestigious championship. As the countdown to the 2024 U.S. Open continues, golf fans can look forward to witnessing an exciting and memorable competition at Pinehurst No. 2, where history will once again be made on the course.
