Location of the 2025 Genesis Invitational

The Genesis Invitational, an annual event hosted by Tiger Woods, is one of the eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour schedule for 2025. However, due to the wildfires around Los Angeles, the tournament has been forced to find a new venue. In collaboration with Genesis, The Riviera Country Club, and TGR Live, the PGA Tour has announced that the event will be played at an alternate location the week of Feb. 10-16. While the tragic events unfolding around Los Angeles are of utmost importance, the Genesis now needs a new home, and the PGA Tour will be looking at other venues in California.

With less than a month until the Genesis is scheduled to tee off, the PGA Tour is considering switching to a venue that is already being used as part of the current West Coast Swing. The preparation for a tournament goes beyond just the course, as infrastructure such as stands, concessions, and policing plans need to be put in place. Despite the challenges, the PGA Tour is exploring different options to ensure the successful hosting of the Genesis Invitational.

One potential venue for the Genesis Invitational is the Pete Dye Stadium Course at PGA West, which is hosting the American Express tournament this week in La Quinta, California. This course is located 150 miles east of Riviera and could be a convenient option for the PGA Tour. Another possible location is Torrey Pines in San Diego, where the Farmers Insurance Open is being played the week after the American Express. With two courses in play, one could be saved and prepared for the Genesis, ensuring a fresh look for the tournament.

Pebble Beach, a renowned venue on the Monterey Peninsula, could also be considered for the Genesis Invitational. With the Pro-Am tournament taking place two weeks before the Genesis, there may be an opportunity to use one course and keep the other pristine for the event. Additionally, TPC Scottsdale in Phoenix could host the Genesis straight after the WM Phoenix Open. While it would require an almost overnight retrofit for sponsorship boards and other elements, the existing infrastructure from the previous tournament could benefit the Genesis.

Ultimately, the PGA Tour is exploring various options to find a suitable venue for the Genesis Invitational in light of the wildfires near Los Angeles. The decision to move the tournament reflects the need to prioritize safety and flexibility in planning major events. While the situation is challenging, the PGA Tour is committed to delivering a successful and memorable Genesis Invitational for players and fans alike. Stay tuned for updates on the new venue and additional tournament information in the coming days.
