Moriya Jutanugarn was the standout player at the 2024 Portland Classic, as she almost went the entire week without a bogey before clinching her first individual title in six years. Her closing 66 gave her a 22-under total for the week, two strokes ahead of a trio of players. The victory was particularly sweet for Jutanugarn, who expressed how special every win is, especially after a long gap since her last victory.

The Portland Classic also saw impressive performances from players like Russia’s Nataliya Guseva and Narin An, who briefly took the lead with an ace on the par-3 16th. Unfortunately, An faltered on the last two holes, allowing Jutanugarn to secure the win. Angel Yin, who started the season in a wheelchair after breaking her left ankle, missed out on a back-nine charge but showed resilience in bouncing back from a series of missed cuts.

Jutanugarn’s win at the Portland Classic solidified her place among the top players from Thailand who have succeeded on the LPGA tour this year. With players like Patty Tavatanakit, Atthaya Thitikul, and Chanettee Wannasaen also securing victories, Thailand has shown its dominance in women’s golf. Jutanugarn’s success was celebrated by her sister Ariya, who praised her work ethic and dedication to the sport.

The tournament provided an opportunity for players to make big moves towards securing status for next year and impressing U.S. Solheim Cup captain Stacy Lewis. Players like Guseva, who came close to becoming the first Russian player to win on the LPGA, showcased their talent and potential on the tour. Dewi Weber, who played on the Epson Tour for most of the season, also made an impact with standout performances and is poised to make a return to the LPGA.

Despite challenges and setbacks, players like Andrea Lee and Aditi Ashok continued to showcase their skills and determination on the course. Lee, a past champion in Portland, faced a tough final round but still managed to secure a share of ninth place. Ashok, who will be competing in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, finished in a respectable position in Portland, setting the stage for her upcoming competition.

Overall, the 2024 Portland Classic was a showcase of talent, resilience, and determination among the players on the LPGA tour. Moriya Jutanugarn’s victory was a highlight of the event, marking a significant milestone in her career after a long gap since her last individual win. The tournament provided a platform for players from around the world to compete at the highest level and make their mark in women’s golf. As the season progresses, fans can expect more thrilling competition and inspiring performances from players on the LPGA tour.
