The Amundi Evian Championship, once considered a crazy idea thirty years ago, has transformed into the fifth LPGA major with a purse of $8 million and a prestigious list of champions. The event, held annually in Évian-les-Bains, is a celebration of the world’s best women golfers, featuring champagne toasts, stunning views, and a breathtaking fireworks show. The Evian has faced challenges over the years, including controversy over the course’s quality and the timing of the event, but has remained a staple on the tour.

Many young stars on tour today have always known the Evian as a major, but veterans like Lexi Thompson have seen its evolution from a regular tournament to a major championship. Despite the changes, the organizers have strived to maintain the family-friendly atmosphere that has been a hallmark of the event since its inception. The tournament’s chairman, Franck Riboud, emphasizes the importance of preserving the original ambiance while continuing to improve the tournament year after year.

Nelly Korda, a prominent figure in women’s golf, recently faced a setback when she missed three consecutive cuts and was bitten by a dog in Seattle. After taking a week off to recover, Korda worked with her coach to fine-tune her swing and mental approach. Despite the challenges, Korda remains passionate about the game and embraces the ups and downs that come with competitive golf.

Brooke Henderson, a two-time major champion, is looking to regain her winning form at the Evian. Henderson, who finished runner-up at last year’s event, has made equipment changes in search of better putting performance. With strong ball striking and course strategy, Henderson aims to continue her success at the Evian, where she has been dominant in recent years.

Amy Yang, a seasoned player making her 19th start at the Evian, enters this year’s tournament as a major champion. Yang’s recent victory at the Sahalee Championship was met with a heartwarming celebration from her peers, highlighting the camaraderie among players on the LPGA tour. The support and encouragement from her fellow competitors have meant a great deal to Yang as she prepares for another major challenge in France.

Celine Boutier, the first Frenchwoman to win the Evian, reflects on the emotional victory and the overwhelming support she received from fans and fellow players. The event’s tradition of the national flag delivery by a skydiver holds special significance for Boutier, who credits the fans’ enthusiasm for fueling her success. Boutier’s breakthrough win at the Evian propelled her to multiple victories in the subsequent season, solidifying her status as a top contender on the tour.

The field at the Amundi Evian Championship includes eight amateurs, including top-ranked Lottie Woad, who won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur earlier this year. Former No. 1 Ingrid Lindblad, who recently turned professional, is making her LPGA debut at the Evian after a successful college career. The presence of talented amateurs and rising stars adds an exciting dynamic to the tournament, showcasing the depth and diversity of women’s golf on the international stage.

In conclusion, the Amundi Evian Championship represents the pinnacle of women’s golf, blending tradition, competition, and camaraderie in a picturesque setting. As the event continues to evolve and attract the world’s top players, it remains a testament to the enduring legacy of the LPGA tour and its commitment to excellence. With a rich history and a bright future ahead, the Evian Championship stands as a beacon of inspiration for generations of female golfers to come.
