The U.S. Senior Challenge, a unique senior amateur event held at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia, saw Team Ohio maintain its lead in the second round of competition. Captained by Jim Durr, Team Ohio stayed at the top of the leaderboard with multiple rounds of even par. In this event, teams of four players from different states compete over 54 holes, with an individual race running simultaneously.

In the first round, teams played in the same group, and the team score was based on the three best scores on each hole. In the second round, players were paired based on their individual score from the first day and their standing on the individual leaderboard in four age divisions. The team format switched to a play-four-count-three format similar to college golf.

Ohio counted rounds of even-par 71 from TJ Brudzinski and Jeff Mallette, with Durr contributing a 75. All three of Ohio’s counters birdied the par-5 third hole, while Brudzinski and Mallette made birdie and eagle, respectively, on the par-5 seventh. Ohio is currently at 4 over for the first two rounds.

Team Texas improved their standing on Day 2 and is within striking distance for the final round, sitting at 8 under. Their captain, Gary Mundy, shot a 1-under 70. Team Arkansas, captained by Bev Hargraves, and a second Texas team led by Mac McGee, are tied for third at 9 over.

The individual leaderboards are competitive after two rounds, with Crispin Fuentes leading the super senior division by five shots over Durr. Trey Womack leads the senior division at 2 over, while Dan Pouliot leads the legend division at even par. Gary Jeffreys is at the top of the super legend division at 6 over after Bill Engel followed his opening 70 with a second-round 80.

With the competition heating up heading into the final round, teams and individuals alike are focused on making their mark in the U.S. Senior Challenge and coming out on top in this prestigious senior amateur event. The tight standings and impressive performances from players across different age divisions make for an exciting finish to this year’s competition at Kingsmill Resort.
