The 2024 PGA Tour season is coming to a close, and players at the RSM Classic at Sea Island Golf Club are fighting for their spot in the standings. Some are aiming to secure a spot in the top 125 of the FedEx Cup Fall standings to keep a full Tour card for the upcoming year. Others are looking to crack the top 60, or Aon Next 10, for a chance to play in lucrative events in 2025. Patrick Rodgers, currently at No. 52, is one of the lucky few who already has his spot secured for next year and is focused on maintaining his position.

Rodgers took an offensive approach in his opening round, starting with six pars before making a string of birdies to finish at 5 under. He was pleased with his ball control and discipline, hitting every green in regulation on a blustery day. Having finished inside the top 50 last season, Rodgers is eager to get back into the signature events that have no cut rule. He sees this week as a great opportunity to secure a win and take his game to the next level.

Despite being a seasoned professional on the Tour since 2014, Rodgers has yet to claim a victory, making him one of the most accomplished players without a win. His closest chance came at the 2018 RSM Classic when he forced a playoff with Charles Howell III after shooting record-breaking rounds on the weekend. Howell ultimately won, ending his long drought. Rodgers has finished as a runner-up four times but has shown consistency and skill at this event.

Rodgers seems to thrive under pressure, maintaining his focus until the very end of the season. He finished in the top 10 last year and has had success at the RSM Classic, hosted by Davis Love III. The mental space of it being the end of the year allows him to be more present and learn from the experience. The tournament offers great golf courses and a familiar environment for Rodgers to showcase his skills.

As the RSM Classic continues, Rodgers is determined to make the most of his opportunity and secure a win. With a strong opening round, he has set himself up nicely for the rest of the tournament. His focus, discipline, and ball control will play a crucial role in his performance in the upcoming days. Rodgers is looking to capitalize on his past success at the event and take his game to new heights.

Overall, Rodgers’ offensive approach at the RSM Classic sets him apart from the competition and showcases his determination to succeed. His goal of securing a victory and improving his standing in the Tour is within reach, and he is focused on making the most of the opportunity at hand. With his experience, skill, and mental fortitude, Rodgers is a formidable contender in the final days of the 2024 PGA Tour season.
