Haeran Ryu, a professional golfer, is one of the first-round leaders at the Chevron Championship. Despite the high threshold for celebrity in golf, Ryu found herself starstruck when she saw she would be paired with her childhood hero, Yani Tseng, at the tournament. Tseng, a five-time major champion, was Ryu’s favorite player growing up in South Korea, and her father would often call her to watch Tseng play at the top of the leaderboard. Ryu shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 on Thursday, putting her in a tie for the lead and allowing her to play alongside Tseng for at least another day.

Ryu’s family back in Korea was able to watch her stellar performance at the Chevron Championship, as she climbed to the top of the leaderboard alongside her hero, Tseng. The two will tee off together on Friday, alongside fellow star Jeeno Thitikul, before going their separate ways to continue their pursuit of victory. If Ryu can maintain her strong play over the next three rounds, she may find herself achieving her dream of winning a major championship, despite her initial nerves at playing with Tseng.

The pairing of Ryu and Tseng at the Chevron Championship was a moment of pure joy for Ryu, who introduced herself to Tseng and shared memories of watching her with her father. Tseng expressed gratitude for Ryu’s father introducing her to golf through watching her play, creating a special moment of connection between the two players. As Ryu continues to compete at the tournament, she will carry the memory of playing with her childhood hero and the inspiration it has given her to perform at her best.

The Chevron Championship is the first major of the LPGA season, making Ryu’s performance even more significant as she pursues her first major championship victory. The tournament offers an opportunity for players to showcase their skills and compete against the best in the world, including former champions like Tseng. Ryu’s success at the event reflects years of hard work and dedication to her craft, as well as the influence of her childhood hero on her game.

As Ryu prepares for the remaining rounds of the Chevron Championship, she will draw on the inspiration of playing alongside Tseng and the support of her family and fans back in Korea. Her strong start at the tournament has put her in contention for the title, and she will need to maintain her focus and composure to secure a victory. With her idol by her side on the course, Ryu will strive to make her childhood dream of winning a major championship a reality, further solidifying her place among the top players in women’s golf.
