After experiencing heartbreak at the U.S. Open, Rory McIlroy is ready to return to action at the Genesis Scottish Open. Despite making three bogeys over the final four holes and losing by one stroke to Bryson DeChambeau, McIlroy quickly got over the disappointment. He withdrew from the Travelers Championship to regroup before the British Open. McIlroy reflected on what went wrong during a press conference, highlighting his mental errors on crucial putts.

McIlroy admitted that he felt uncomfortable on a short putt at 16, which he missed, and struggled with focus on the 18th as he missed a critical 4-foot putt. He acknowledged that his pre-shot routine became longer, and he became too focused on DeChambeau’s performance. Despite the loss, McIlroy remains optimistic about learning from the experience and turning it into positive energy for future events.

The defending champion at the Scottish Open, McIlroy is eager to get back into the winner’s circle and redeem himself after the U.S. Open defeat. He recalled his victory at the tournament last year, particularly his heroic shots on the final two holes that sealed the win. McIlroy recognized the significance of his victory at The Renaissance Club and is ready to create more memorable moments in the upcoming tournament.

McIlroy emphasized the importance of letting go of past disappointments and focusing on upcoming challenges. He acknowledged that while the U.S. Open loss was tough, he has experienced more devastating defeats in the past. McIlroy is using his past experiences as motivation to continue striving for success and not letting setbacks define his career.

As McIlroy prepares for the Genesis Scottish Open, he is determined to apply the lessons learned from the U.S. Open and improve his mental and strategic approach on the course. He remains confident in his abilities to bounce back from setbacks and turn them into valuable learning experiences. McIlroy’s resilience and determination make him a formidable competitor as he aims to return to the winner’s circle at the upcoming tournament.
