Review of the Cobra LIMIT3D Iron by Golf Monthly

Cobra has recently released the first commercially available set of 3D-printed steel irons called the LIMIT3D iron. This innovative new technology combines the look and feel of a forged blade with the playability of a game improvement iron. By partnering with nTop, a leader in computational design software, Cobra has created a fully 3D printed 318L stainless steel body with a unique lattice structure in the center. This structure allows for 33% of the club’s weight to be repositioned for internal perimeter weighting and a high MOI. Additionally, 100 grams of tungsten has been strategically placed in the heel and toe to lower the CG and enhance forgiveness.

The appearance of the LIMIT3D iron is striking, with a premium finish and futuristic lattice structure. The head shaping is exceptional, with a rounded toe and seamless transition from hosel to top line. While it may not resemble a traditional forged blade at address, the iron falls in line with compact distance irons like the TaylorMade P770 or Titleist T150 in terms of looks. Performance testing at Saunton Golf Club revealed impressive results, with an average carry of 186 yards and a launch angle of 18.3˚. The iron also provided a peak height of 111 feet and manageable spin of under 6400 rpm.

The standout feature of the LIMIT3D iron is its remarkable feel, combining the softness of a blade iron with added liveliness. Impact with the face results in exceptional ball speed and forgiveness, standing up to even the best game improvement irons on the market. The minimal offset of the iron allows for increased workability, making it suitable for a range of players. However, the steep price tag of $3000 or £2499 for a 4-PW set, may limit availability, as only 500 sets are available worldwide.

Despite the high cost and limited availability, the LIMIT3D iron represents a groundbreaking moment in golf club manufacturing. Cobra’s partnership with nTop has opened up new possibilities for club design and performance, setting a new standard for future innovations in the industry. With a wide selection of aftermarket shafts and grips available, players can fine-tune the specs of the iron to suit their individual preferences. Overall, the LIMIT3D iron offers a unique combination of technology, performance, and feel that is unparalleled in the current market.
