Scottie Scheffler was ready to sue Louisville police before charges were dropped, he says

Scottie Scheffler recently revealed that he was prepared to file a lawsuit against the city of Louisville and its police department after his arrest at the PGA Championship. Charges against the World No. 1 were dropped on May 29, negating the need for legal action. The arrest stemmed from an incident where he allegedly assaulted a police officer while trying to enter Valhalla Golf Club for the tournament.

The professional golfer expressed reluctance to take legal action, as he did not want the people of Louisville to bear the consequences of their police department’s mistakes. Despite having evidence in his favor, including eyewitnesses who corroborated his story, Scheffler did not want to sue the city. However, his attorney was prepared to pursue legal action if necessary.

Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion, faced several charges after the arrest, including felony assault of a police officer. The incident occurred amid chaotic traffic at the tournament, following an unfortunate accident involving a tournament volunteer. Despite being released in time for his second-round tee time, Scheffler’s performance in the tournament was affected, ultimately finishing T-8.

While competing in the Charles Schwab Challenge, Scheffler learned that the charges were likely to be dropped. Despite feeling relief, he acknowledges that the incident still weighs on him. The golfer, who has won four events this year, admits that it was a traumatic experience and continues to impact him, despite the charges being dismissed.

Despite the ongoing impact of the incident, Scheffler is focusing on his upcoming tournaments, including the Memorial and the U.S. Open. The new father expressed readiness for the upcoming events, despite still processing the aftermath of the arrest. He acknowledges that the situation will always be a part of his season but hopes that with time, people will forget about it.

As someone with a strong Christian faith and a clean record, Scheffler finds it challenging to come to terms with the incident. He emphasizes that the recovery process involves understanding how and why it happened, even if those answers may never fully materialize. Despite the lingering effects of the arrest, Scheffler remains focused on his professional career and maintaining his competitive edge on the golf course.
