Scottie Scheffler secured a crucial par save on the 18th hole to win the Memorial Tournament against Collin Morikawa in a battle of attrition between two top ball strikers in professional golf. This victory marked Scheffler’s fifth win of the season, but notably, it was his first win since becoming a father to his son Bennett. His wife Meredith and baby Bennett were present at the 18th green to witness this special moment, making the tournament even more memorable for the Scheffler family. Scheffler’s win at the Memorial Tournament is significant as it is the first time he has won a PGA Tour event outside of the months of February, March, and April. He is the first player since Tom Watson in 1980 to win five times before the U.S. Open in a season.

Muirfield Village played as one of the toughest tests of the season on Sunday, just before the U.S. Open, with only six players under par out of the 52 who made the cut at this limited-field event. Despite the challenging course conditions, Scheffler was able to maintain his composure and secure the victory with a remarkable par save on the final hole. The win at the Memorial Tournament adds to Scheffler’s impressive list of achievements this season, with previous wins at major events like the Masters, Players, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and RBC Heritage. This victory solidifies Scheffler’s position as one of the top players on the PGA Tour and sets the stage for his future success in the sport.

The final round of the Memorial Tournament saw Scheffler up by just one shot over Morikawa, with both players facing tough conditions and tough competitors. Scheffler, who started the day with a three-shot lead, saw his advantage diminish as Morikawa made a late surge to challenge for the title. However, Scheffler’s clutch play on the back nine, including a crucial par save on the 18th, secured the victory and showcased his resilience under pressure. The win also marked Scheffler’s return to form after his unexpected arrest before the second round of the PGA Championship, where he was eventually cleared of all charges. This victory at the Memorial Tournament is a testament to Scheffler’s skill, determination, and unwavering focus on the golf course.

Throughout the tournament, Scheffler’s performance was highlighted by his ability to navigate the challenging course conditions and outplay his competitors when it mattered most. His consistent ball-striking and strategic decision-making enabled him to maintain his lead despite the relentless pressure from Morikawa and other contenders. The final showdown on the 18th hole showcased Scheffler’s mental toughness and ability to deliver under the spotlight, culminating in a well-deserved victory at the Memorial Tournament. As he prepares for the upcoming U.S. Open, Scheffler’s win at Muirfield Village solidifies his status as a formidable competitor on the PGA Tour and sets the stage for future success in major championships and other prestigious events.
