Jerry Kelly emerged victorious at the 2024 SAS Championship in Cary, North Carolina, after a thrilling finish that saw him three-putt the 18th hole to fall into a tie with Padraig Harrington. Despite the setback, Harrington’s second shot on the final hole ended in a bogey, giving Kelly a one-shot win and his 12th PGA Tour Champions title. This win was Kelly’s first on the senior circuit since 2022, marking a significant moment in his career as he battled through injuries.

Harrington, who finished in second place with a score of 71, was aiming for his third win of the season. His runner-up finish was his sixth top 10 in 12 Champions tour outings. Shane Bertsch finished in solo third at 10 under, while Angel Cabrera secured fourth place with a score of 9 under. Steven Alker and Matt Gogel tied for fifth at 8 under, rounding out the top finishers at the event.

The SAS Championship served as the final regular-season event on the senior circuit, setting the stage for the upcoming Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. Ernie Els, who finished T-45 at the championship, enters the playoffs in the top spot in the points race. The top 72 players in the Charles Schwab Cup standings have advanced to compete for the season-long title, with the Dominion Energy Charity Classic in Richmond, Virginia, kicking off the playoff series.

Despite moving up to ninth in the points standings with his SAS Championship win, Jerry Kelly announced his decision to skip the Dominion Energy Charity Classic next week. Kelly’s victory at the SAS Championship solidified his position as a contender in the postseason events, showcasing his resilience and skill on the Champions tour. As the competition heats up in the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, golf fans can expect more exciting finishes and top-tier performances from the seasoned players on the senior circuit.

In a post-round interview with Golf Channel, Jerry Kelly expressed his gratitude and relief at securing the win after a challenging battle on the course. Kelly’s determination to overcome injuries and setbacks highlights the resilience and competitive spirit that define his career as a professional golfer. With his 12th PGA Tour Champions victory under his belt, Kelly looks ahead to the upcoming playoff events with confidence and determination to continue his winning streak.

The conclusion of the SAS Championship marked a significant milestone for Jerry Kelly and the other top finishers at the event, setting the stage for an exciting playoff series in the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. As the competition intensifies and the stakes rise, golf enthusiasts can look forward to thrilling moments and compelling storylines unfolding on the senior circuit. With veteran players like Kelly and Harrington leading the way, the postseason events promise to deliver high-quality golf and unforgettable performances for fans around the world to enjoy.
