The Golf Foundation’s Play In May campaign has started, with all golfers in Great Britain and Ireland being asked to support the ‘Unleash Your Drive in Schools’ initiative through a special competition. Thanks to the DP World Tour and Wentworth Club, UK golfers have the opportunity to participate in the Play In May campaign for a chance to play in the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am at Wentworth. 40 spots are available in the Unleash Your Drive Final at Wentworth Club in August, with the top three players earning a place in the Pro-Am event in September.
Participants in the Play In May campaign are required to make a £5 donation with every round played, which will assist in expanding the reach of Unleash Your Drive to all schools in the UK. Launched in September 2023, this mental well-being initiative has seen significant results, with over 500 schools already participating and indicating a 19% increase in mental toughness among students on the program. While the Golf Foundation receives support from core funders and the Home Nations, President Nick Dougherty emphasizes the need for additional support from all golfers due to the ambitious scale of the Unleash Your Drive in Schools initiative.
Dougherty encourages every golfer in the UK to seize the opportunity to participate in the campaign and celebrate their love for the game by playing in May. At the end of May, the top 30 players on the Unleash Your Drive leaderboard will qualify for a special tournament on the West Course in August, hosted by Dougherty. Players who do not qualify will also have an opportunity to participate in a draw, with and without an official handicap, for a chance to win prizes.
