The latest edition of The TGL is set to be the most anticipated yet, as co-founders Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy face off against each other. After Woods’ team, Jupiter Links GC, suffered a 12-1 defeat in their last match, they are eager to make amends. The match will take place on Monday 27 January, with each team competing over 15 holes in a simulator setting.
The format of the match will consist of an alternate shot format for the first nine holes, followed by singles matches for the remaining six holes. With a total of 15 regular season matches, each team will play against the others once in a round-robin system. The top four teams will then progress to the semifinals, with the two winners competing in the finals for the SoFi Cup on 24 and 25 March.
Despite their previous defeat, Jupiter Links team still boasts considerable talent and experience with Woods, Kisner, and Kim. On the other hand, Boston Common features McIlroy, Bradley, and Scott, all of whom are ranked higher in the world golf rankings. Boston Common is the only team that has yet to play, and they will face off against Los Angeles next week.
The match will start with Woods and McIlroy teeing off at the 516-yard par-4 ‘Flex’. This will be followed by several other holes including par-5s, par-3s, and par-4s, with the singles matches concluding with the par-5 ‘Pin Oak’. The match is scheduled to begin at around 7pm ET on Monday, with matches expected to last around two hours each. It will be broadcast live on ESPN in the United States and Sky Sports Golf in the UK.
In terms of betting odds, Boston Common Golf is likely to be the strong favorite for victory in this match. Despite initially being joint second favorites for the title, McIlroy’s team is now considered one of the top contenders. In contrast, Jupiter Links GC, after their previous defeat, is now seen as the outsider for the title. With the top teams competing for the SoFi Cup, the competition is heating up in The TGL.
