The world of golf is filled with different putting grips, each with its own merits and benefits. One such grip that is gaining attention is the reverse overlap putting grip, as endorsed by Stan Utley, a GOLF Magazine Top 100 Teacher with a wealth of experience in the golfing world. In a recent social media video, Utley explained the mechanics of the reverse overlap grip and how it can help golfers achieve a more consistent putting stroke.

The reverse overlap putting grip involves positioning the lifeline of the left hand down the center of the grip, with the left thumb on top of the grip. The right hand is placed with the lifeline on the last knuckle of the left middle finger, matching the left hand grip. By aligning the forearms, wrists, and hands on the shaft plane, golfers can easily swing on plane and improve their putting accuracy.

For golfers who are looking to try out a new putting grip, the reverse overlap may offer comfort and stability. The grip is designed to keep the hands working together to release the club smoothly, minimizing potential hand rolling and increasing control. While the reverse overlap grip is widely used by professional golfers like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, it may not be suitable for every player. Ultimately, the best putting grip is one that makes the golfer feel coordinated and confident.

If you are intrigued by the reverse overlap putting grip, it is worth giving it a try to see if it improves your putting performance. However, if you are already satisfied with your current grip and putting technique, there may be no need to switch. Putting is a highly personal aspect of the game, and what works well for one golfer may not work for another. The key is to find a grip style that suits your comfort and confidence on the greens.

The reverse overlap grip is just one of many putting grips available to golfers, and each player should explore different options to find the one that works best for them. Whether you choose the reverse overlap, cross-hand, claw, or another grip style, the most important thing is to practice consistently and find a grip that allows you to feel connected and in control during your putting stroke. With the right grip and technique, you can improve your putting performance and lower your scores on the golf course.

In conclusion, the reverse overlap putting grip is a popular choice among professional golfers and may offer benefits such as increased control and consistency in the putting stroke. However, every golfer is unique, and the best putting grip is one that feels comfortable and allows for confident execution on the greens. By exploring different putting grips and practicing regularly, you can find the grip that suits your game and helps you achieve success on the golf course.
