In 2007, a group of talented American amateur golfers formed what could be considered the best Walker Cup team in history. This biennial event pits American amateurs against their counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland. The 2007 team included future PGA Tour stars such as Scottie Scheffler, Will Zalatoris, and Maverick McNealy. Led by these promising players, the team dominated the competition with a final score of 19-7 at the Los Angeles Country Club. Among the players was Braden Thornberry, who recently earned his PGA Tour card after winning the Korn Ferry Tour Championship.

During a recent interview on GOLF’s Subpar podcast, Thornberry reflected on his time with the 2007 Walker Cup team. When asked which teammate he thought would have the most successful career, Thornberry surprisingly mentioned Collin Morikawa, a multiple major champion. Despite not winning as much in college, Morikawa’s consistent performance in major tournaments and impeccable golf swing convinced Thornberry that Morikawa was destined for greatness. Morikawa has since lived up to those expectations, winning two major titles and multiple PGA Tour events.

At just 27 years old, Morikawa has already established himself as one of the most successful young pros in golf history. His impressive resume includes two major titles and six PGA Tour wins. In comparison, Scheffler, another member of the 2007 Walker Cup team, also has two majors but boasts 13 PGA Tour victories. Despite their different career paths, both Morikawa and Scheffler have solidified themselves as top players on the PGA Tour.

In conclusion, the 2007 Walker Cup team showcased a remarkable group of talented amateur golfers who would go on to achieve success on the PGA Tour. While Scottie Scheffler has emerged as a dominant force in professional golf, Collin Morikawa has also made a significant impact with his major victories and PGA Tour success. The legacy of the 2007 Walker Cup team lives on through the accomplishments of its members, who continue to excel on the highest stage in golf. The camaraderie and competition experienced during the Walker Cup event have undoubtedly shaped the careers and successes of these talented golfers.
