Tiger Woods undergoes a back surgery for the second time

Tiger Woods underwent microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement in his lower back, as announced by his team recently. The surgery was considered a success and was performed by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi of the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Fla. Woods himself expressed hope that this surgery will alleviate the back spasms and pain he had been experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season, enabling him to return to normal activities, including golf. This latest surgery adds to a long list of surgeries Woods has undergone in recent years to address various injuries and health concerns.

In the 2024 season, Tiger Woods participated in five tournaments, including The Genesis Invitational and all four majors. He withdrew from the Genesis Invitational due to illness but went on to make the cut at the Masters, where he set a new all-time record and finished 60th. However, Woods missed the cut at the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and Open Championship. His previous surgery on his back was in January 2021, and he also had a subtalar fusion procedure last year to address post-traumatic arthritis from a talus fracture.

The impact of this latest surgery on Tiger Woods’ playing schedule is currently unknown. Traditionally, Woods has participated in events such as the PNC Championship in December alongside his son, Charlie. However, no official commitment has been made by the duo for this year’s tournament, scheduled to take place on December 19-22 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes. It remains to be seen when Woods will make his return to competitive golf following his recent surgery.

As a seasoned golfer and member of Columbia University’s first female varsity golf team, Jessica Marksbury is well-versed in the world of golf. Her extensive experience in the industry allows her to provide expert analysis and insights on events like Tiger Woods’ recent surgery. By understanding Woods’ medical history and past performances, Marksbury can offer valuable perspectives on the potential implications of this surgery for his future in golf.

Tiger Woods’ determination and resilience have been evident throughout his career, as he has overcome numerous injuries and setbacks on his path to success. With this latest surgery, Woods is once again facing challenges that will test his resolve and determination. Fans and critics alike are eager to see how Woods will bounce back from this surgery and whether he will be able to return to competitive golf at the level he is known for. The golf world is watching closely as Woods embarks on another chapter in his illustrious career.
