Improving your putting game is crucial for lowering your golf scores. Many golfers struggle with wobbling putters, but there are tips and drills you can use to improve your stroke. One tip from Piers Ward is to add “briskness” to your putting stroke to create a smoother motion and better control. By adding speed to your stroke, you can reduce wobble and achieve a more consistent roll on the ball.

To practice adding briskness to your putting stroke, there are various drills you can try. One drill involves using an alignment stick to practice making small strokes that roll straight towards the cup. Another drill, the chalk line drill, helps you ensure that your putts are rolling along the desired line. The alignment ball is a portable training aid that can help with clubface alignment and overall putting technique.

Distance control is essential for avoiding three-putting on the greens. The 3-foot increment drill allows you to practice controlling your backstroke length to achieve consistent distance control. Another drill, the two-putt or better drill, challenges you to make two putts or better in a row, building confidence in your putting abilities. The 5-foot circle drill helps you adjust your aim around the hole, improving your green reading skills.

Practicing these drills regularly can help you become a more confident and consistent putter on the greens. By focusing on speed control, alignment, and distance, you can improve your putting game and ultimately lower your golf scores. Whether you’re playing a casual round with friends or competing in a tournament, having a solid putting stroke is essential for success on the golf course.
