The recently held golf day at Hadley Wood Golf Club paid tribute to the late Jimmy Greaves, a legendary Tottenham and England striker who passed away in 2021. Fifteen former Spurs players, including Glenn Hoddle and Michael Dawson, participated in the event alongside other sporting stars like boxing legend John Conteh. Sponsored by Duxiana, Tottenham Hotspur’s Official Sleep Partner, the event supported charities close to Greaves’s heart, including Micky Hazard’s Legend on the Bench, Graham Roberts’ Centre Algarve, and the Justin Edinburgh 3 Foundation.

The team event was won by Uniserve, with former West Ham player Stuart Slater being part of the winning team. Various prizes were awarded for accomplishments like the longest drive and nearest the pin, including a Jetson chair worth £5,000 and a £16,000 Duxiana bed. Participants also had the opportunity to interact with Spurs legends during the awards presentation and dinner, making the event even more memorable.

The event was inspired by a tradition that began over 20 years ago when Jimmy, his son Danny, and close friend Brian started playing golf together. What started as a small family weekend evolved into an annual event with a coveted trophy that everyone wanted their name engraved on. Following Jimmy’s stroke and eventual passing, the Jimmy Greaves Golf Day and Foundation were established to honor his legacy and support causes that were important to him.

Reflecting on the origins of the event, Danny Greaves shared, “After Dad suffered a severe stroke, we initiated the Jimmy Greaves Golf Day, supported by his professional colleagues from Tottenham who had long admired him. Following dad’s passing in 2021, we then established the Jimmy Greaves Foundation.” The event has grown over the years, thanks to the support of Duxiana and former professionals who were eager to continue Jimmy’s tradition of bringing people together for a good cause.

Former Spurs player Michael Dawson expressed his admiration for Jimmy Greaves, describing him as a true gentleman. He also commended the Jimmy Greaves Foundation as a fitting tribute to a great man. The event brought together former Spurs players and other participants for a day of golf, charity, and camaraderie, continuing Jimmy’s legacy of bringing people together through sports.

In conclusion, the golf day at Hadley Wood Golf Club honoring Jimmy Greaves was a successful event that brought together former football stars, sporting legends, and participants for a day of golf, charity, and remembrance. The event supported charities close to Greaves’s heart and provided an opportunity for individuals to interact with Spurs legends. Through the Jimmy Greaves Foundation, his legacy lives on, inspiring others to come together for a good cause and honor the memory of a true sports icon.
