The spot between the longest fairway wood and the mid-iron is often a challenge for golfers, leading to questions about the best clubs to use. This area typically sees shots ranging from 240-180 yards, making it important to have the right club in the bag. Long irons, utility irons, hybrids, and high-lofted fairway woods can all be effective, but it’s crucial to understand the benefits they offer based on player type.

A recent robotic test conducted by Golf Laboratories revealed the launch and spin characteristics of various clubs at 92 mph. This test showed that different clubs can help fill carry gaps in a player’s bag. For example, a 7-wood with 19 degrees of loft is designed for forgiveness and players who need help launching the ball high and stopping it on the green. On the other hand, a 3-hybrid with 14 degrees of loft is ideal for golfers who need a secondary option off the tee and prefer a compact profile for better player control.

The TaylorMade Qi10 Custom Fairway Wood offers a blend of distance and forgiveness, making it popular among both Tour players and amateurs. The Infinity Carbon Crown design provides a clean look at address while optimizing performance. This club is designed to maintain high inertia with an enlarged face profile for confidence and ball speed.

A 3-iron with 15 degrees of loft is best suited for strong ball-strikers who prioritize workability and launch variability. These players typically seek a consistent look throughout their iron set and want to shape and control shots effectively. To make sure you have the right clubs in your bag, consider getting fitted at a True Spec Golf location near you.
