Next week, the 2024 Bridges Cup will take place in South Korea, showcasing high-level amateur golf featuring some of the best golfers in the world. Established in 2022, the elite mid-amateur event features 24 players competing in a Ryder Cup-style competition divided into two teams – Team USA and Team International. Team USA has emerged victorious in the previous two editions of the Bridges Cup, but Team International is eager to reverse that trend in the upcoming event at Haesley Nine Bridges.

The U.S. Bridges Cup roster includes players like Scott Anderson, a 2017 U.S. Mid-Am qualifying medalist and 2017 U.S. Mid-Am quarterfinalist, along with Charlie Grace, who played collegiate golf at Vanderbilt University. Drew Kittleson, the 2008 U.S. Amateur runner-up, and Hoyt McGarity, former collegiate golfer at Lynn University and CEO and President of 8AM Golf, are also part of the team. Other notable members include Tug Maude, Trey Marucci, Andrew Medley, Henry Shimp, Drew Stoltz, Scott Strickland, Pete Tomasulo, and Taylor Wood.

On the International side, the team is led by captain Simon Holt and vice-captain Joshua Adams. This roster includes players like Jacob Austin, the 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 Sunningdale club champion, and Peter Millar & G/FORE Marketing Director, Jonathan Bale, T3 at the 2024 Terra Cotta Invitational and played collegiate golf at Louisiana Tech, and Harry Bolton, 2023 U.S. Mid-Am match-play qualifier. Other standout players on the team include Angus Carrick, Tom Eteridge, Hugh Foley, James Gill, Nic Kay, Colin Loveday, Matt McClean, Lukas Michel, and Nick Nolte.

The Bridges Cup provides a platform for these talented amateur golfers to showcase their skills in a competitive environment, similar to a professional tour event. With a Ryder Cup-style format, the competition adds an extra layer of excitement and intensity for both the players and the spectators. The event also allows fans to discover up-and-coming talent in the golf world and witness potential future stars of the sport in action.

The captains and vice-captains of both Team USA and Team International play a crucial role in leading their respective teams to victory. Their experience, strategic thinking, and leadership skills are essential in guiding the players through the competition and making key decisions during matches. Captains like Jeff Fujimoto for Team USA and Simon Holt for Team International bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the event, ensuring that their teams are well-prepared and motivated to perform at their best.

As the Bridges Cup grows in popularity and prestige, it attracts more attention from fans, sponsors, and the golfing community at large. The event serves as a platform for amateur golfers to gain exposure, build their reputation, and potentially earn opportunities to compete at higher levels of the sport. With each edition of the Bridges Cup, the level of competition rises, showcasing the depth of talent in the amateur golf world and highlighting the passion and dedication of these players to excel in their sport.
