Patrick Reed ended a four-year individual victory drought by winning the Asian Tour’s Hong Kong Open by three strokes with a total score of 22-under. He had not tasted victory since the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour. Reed followed his record-breaking 11-under 59 on Saturday with a solid 66 on Sunday to secure the win. His nearest competitor was New Zealand’s Ben Campbell, who is aiming for a full-time spot in the LIV Golf League next season via the Asian Tour’s International Series.

The Hong Kong Open, with a total prize purse of $2 million, was one of the final International Series events this season, with only two more tournaments left before a season-long champion is crowned. John Catlin of America currently leads the standings, but his cut miss in Hong Kong resulted in his lead over Campbell narrowing to less than 90 points. Reed’s win has propelled him into contention for the season-long title, making the race for the championship even more exciting.

Reed expressed his pride in his performance over the weekend, highlighting his fondness for the Hong Kong Golf Club and the challenges it presents. He credited his ability to think creatively and make strategic decisions on the course for his success. Despite dropping shots on the 15th and final holes of his final round, Reed maintained his composure and secured victory. His performance, especially his birdie streak early on Sunday, helped him build a significant lead and ultimately claim the title.

Campbell, the runner-up, acknowledged his frustration with his cold putter, which prevented him from mounting a serious challenge to Reed. He lamented his missed opportunities and expressed disappointment at not being able to push the eventual champion harder. Other top finishers at the Hong Kong Open included Japan’s Kazuki Higa, Australia’s Wade Ormsby, and Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana. England’s Justin Rose, the 2015 Hong Kong Open champion, ended in a tie for 18th place.

The Asian Tour has only two events left on its schedule this year, with the International Series Qatar tournament taking place before the season-ending PIF Saudi International at Riyadh Golf Club in early December. The competition for the season-long championship title is intensifying, with Reed’s victory adding excitement to the race. The LIV Golf League continues to showcase top talent and thrilling performances, making each tournament a must-watch for golf fans around the world.
