17-year-old Blades Brown has decided to forego his final year and a half of high school and skip college to turn pro at the age of 17. Brown, who is currently the No. 1-ranked high school junior in the class of 2026, made a name for himself at the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic where he made the cut and finished in a tie for 26th on his PGA Tour debut after receiving a sponsor exemption. His impressive amateur career highlights include a third-place finish at the RLX Ralph Lauren Junior Classic and a runner-up result at The Junior Players Championship, both prestigious amateur tournaments. Brown has also represented the USA at the Junior Presidents Cup.
As of December, Brown was ranked as the No. 1 player in the American Junior Golf Association Rolex rankings and had attracted interest from top colleges. In 2024, he secured three AJGA titles and won the Tennessee State Junior by a margin of 12 shots. Despite his success in the amateur ranks, Brown announced via Instagram that he will be transitioning to professional golf in 2025, starting with The American Express at La Quinta between January 16-19. He expressed his excitement for this new chapter in his golf career and his determination to start his professional journey on a positive note.
Before making his mark on the PGA Tour, Brown accumulated five amateur titles and became only the third player to win medals in both the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Junior competitions, following in the footsteps of legends like Bobby Clampett and Tiger Woods. He even surpassed Bobby Jones’ record from 1920 as the youngest player to earn a US Amateur medal. Despite failing to advance through PGA Tour Q-School recently, Brown has secured several sponsor exemptions for 2025 to aid in launching his professional career.
Drawing inspiration from PGA Tour winner Akshay Bhatia, who turned pro at 17 in 2019 and achieved success at a young age, Brown is poised to follow a similar trajectory. Bhatia earned special temporary membership on the PGA Tour after finishing second at the 2023 Puerto Rico Open and later went on to win the 2023 Barracuda Championship. His success continued in 2024 with a victory at the Valero Texas Open, leading to his qualification for the Tour Championship at East Lake.
Brown’s decision to turn pro at a young age signifies his readiness to take on the challenges and opportunities that professional golf has to offer. By bypassing college and entering the pro ranks early, he is demonstrating a confidence in his abilities and a commitment to pursuing his passion for competitive golf. With sponsor exemptions lined up for his debut season as a professional, Brown will have the chance to showcase his talent on the biggest stages and make a name for himself among the elite players in the sport.
As he embarks on this new chapter in his career, Brown’s supporters are eager to see how he will fare against seasoned professionals and how he will handle the pressure that comes with competing at the highest level. With a strong foundation in the amateur ranks and a promising start to his professional journey, Blades Brown has the potential to become a standout performer in the world of golf, achieving success on the PGA Tour and inspiring a new generation of young golfers to pursue their dreams with determination and dedication.
