When the sun set over Augusta National after the third round of the Masters, Bryson DeChambeau was on the range with his coach, Dana Dahlquist, working on improving his performance for the final round. Despite being in second place, DeChambeau knows that hitting only 50% of greens in regulation like he did in the third round will not be enough to secure the green jacket. He acknowledges that he needs to focus on hitting more greens to have a chance at catching the leader, Rory McIlroy. DeChambeau’s post-round range session provided insight into his strategy for the final round.

During his range session, DeChambeau hit 25 practice shots, with 23 of them being hit with the same club. These shots all carried the same general distance, with each shot being within about five yards of carry distance from one another. This indicates that DeChambeau was focusing on distance control during the practice session. Given that he missed greens by being long and short in the third round, improving his carry distances could help him to hit more greens in the final round.

DeChambeau mentioned that he hit a great pitching wedge shot that ended up 20 yards short of his intended landing spot, which highlights his struggles with consistently lining up the clubface at impact. By working on the basics and improving his clubface alignment and distance control, DeChambeau aims to hit more greens in the final round. If he can achieve this, he may be on his way to securing his first career green jacket at the Masters.

DeChambeau’s focus on distance control during his range session reflects his dedication to improving his performance in the final round. By consistently hitting shots with the same club and similar carry distances, he aims to optimize his chances of hitting more greens in regulation on Sunday. This strategic approach could prove to be crucial in his pursuit of catching the leader and winning the prestigious tournament at Augusta National. With his commitment to refining his game and addressing key areas of improvement, DeChambeau demonstrates his determination to succeed at the Masters.

As DeChambeau prepares for the final round, his emphasis on distance control and clubface alignment underscores his attention to detail and willingness to address weaknesses in his game. By acknowledging the areas where he needs to improve and dedicating focused practice sessions to rectifying those shortcomings, DeChambeau sets himself up for success in the final round of the Masters. His relentless pursuit of excellence and commitment to refining his skills position him as a formidable contender for the green jacket, showcasing his potential to overcome challenges and secure victory on golf’s grandest stage.
