Bob MacIntyre, a professional golfer on the PGA Tour, has had a challenging first year as a full-time player. Despite coming close to winning his home open in Scotland and triumphing in the Ryder Cup, he has struggled with loneliness and homesickness since moving to America. MacIntyre has been in search of the right caddie to accompany him on the course.

After changing caddies last fall and trying out a few different options, MacIntyre made an emergency phone call to his dad, Dougie, to caddie for him at the Canadian Open. Despite being out of his depth at this level of competition, Dougie MacIntyre has helped his son stay calm and focused on the course. The duo played 36 holes without a bogey and earned the 36-hole lead in the process.

Bob MacIntyre attributes their success to his father’s simple approach to caddying, focusing on keeping him comfortable and adding a good shot to each number. With Dougie’s guidance, Bob has been hitting a high percentage of greens, scrambling for par effectively, and performing well on the putting greens. This has resulted in the first 36-hole lead of Bob MacIntyre’s PGA Tour career.

Despite facing challenges like making his first bogey of the week in the third round and facing competition from players like Rory McIlroy, Bob MacIntyre remains focused on enjoying the experience and spending time with his father. He views their unexpected success in the tournament as a bonus and is grateful for the opportunity to compete at a high level with loved ones by his side.

The MacIntyres’ journey at the Canadian Open serves as a heartwarming story of a father stepping in as a caddie in a time of need and exceeding expectations on the course. Bob MacIntyre’s approach to the game, emphasizing simplicity and staying calm, has paid off with impressive results in the tournament. Their bond and shared love for the game of golf have been evident throughout the competition.
