Young left-hander Elvis Smylie achieved a remarkable victory at the BMW Australian PGA Championship by outlasting Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman. Smylie, who was ranked World No. 736 before the tournament began, shot a bogey-free final-round 67 to finish on 14-under and claim his first DP World Tour title. The tournament was shortened to 54 holes due to heavy rain in Brisbane, but Smylie emerged as the champion in wire-to-wire fashion, leading an all-Australian top-five including Anthony Quayle and David Micheluzzi.

Elvis Smylie’s win was even more remarkable considering his background and recent success in the sport. Mentored by Cameron Smith through the Cameron Smith Scholarship in 2019, Smylie continued his impressive run after winning his first pro title at the Bowra & O’Dea Nexus Advisernet WA Open on the PGA Tour of Australasia. His victory at the Australian PGA Championship earned him a full two-year exemption with the DP World Tour, solidifying his status as a rising star in the golf world. Smylie expressed his gratitude and excitement after the win, emphasizing the importance of his family’s support and hard work to reach this milestone.

During the final round of the championship, Smylie demonstrated excellent play on the course, maintaining a steady lead over his competitors. Despite the experience gap between him and fellow competitors like Cameron Smith, Smylie remained focused and consistent throughout the round. With impressive birdies and clutch putting, Smylie managed to build a significant lead over Smith, ultimately securing a two-stroke victory and his first DP World Tour title. His composure under pressure and ability to deliver crucial shots when needed showcased his potential as a rising talent in the golfing world.

Following his win at the BMW Australian PGA Championship, Elvis Smylie reflected on the significance of the moment and his dreams coming true. He credited his short game for saving him in crucial moments during the round and expressed gratitude towards his family for their unwavering support. Smylie’s emotional victory marked a turning point in his career and set the stage for future success on the DP World Tour. As he looks ahead to the upcoming events on the tour, Smylie is determined to build on this win and continue his journey towards achieving more accolades in the world of professional golf.

The DP World Tour season moves on to the ISPS Handa Australian Open at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Melbourne, where Smylie will aim to carry his momentum from the Australian PGA Championship. With his recent triumph and newfound confidence, Smylie is poised to make a strong statement in the upcoming tournaments and solidify his position among the top players in the sport. As he continues to hone his skills and compete against seasoned professionals, Elvis Smylie’s journey in the world of golf is filled with promise and potential for a successful career ahead.
