The U.S. Solheim Cup team for 2024 has been finalized, with Captain Stacy Lewis leading a team that includes nine returning players from last year’s squad. Lewis selected two experienced players, Lexi Thompson and Jennifer Kupcho, along with 30-year-old rookie Sarah Schmelzel as her three picks. Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu, the top two players in the world, are also part of the team, aiming to win for the first time since 2017. The tournament will take place from September 13-15 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, which has previously hosted three Presidents Cups.

Angel Yin, who narrowly missed out on a spot on the team, was unable to secure her fourth Solheim Cup appearance. Thompson, who announced that 2024 would be her last full-time season on the LPGA, will likely be making her final Solheim Cup appearance. Alison Lee, making her first appearance in nearly a decade, has previously been part of a winning Solheim team. Last year’s contest in Spain ended in a tie, with Europe retaining the Cup. The 12 players selected for this year’s team are set to take on Europe at the 2024 Solheim Cup.

Among the players on Team USA are Nelly Korda, who at 26 years old is the top-ranked player in the world and has three Solheim Cup appearances under her belt. Lilia Vu, also 26, made her debut in the 2023 Solheim Cup and qualified for this year’s team based on her performance. Lauren Coughlin, a 31-year-old with no previous Solheim Cup experience, also secured a spot on the team through her performances. Ally Ewing, 31, is making her third appearance on the Solheim Cup team and qualified through her stellar play in previous tournaments.

The team also includes Allisen Corpuz, Megan Khang, Danielle Kang, Rose Zhang, Alison Lee, Lexi Thompson, Jennifer Kupcho, and Sarah Schmelzel. Corpuz, 26, had a strong showing in the 2023 Solheim Cup and qualified based on her performance. Khang, also 26, has three previous appearances and earned her spot through her track record. Kang, 26, had her debut last year and is back for a second appearance in the Solheim Cup. Zhang, 21, made her debut in 2023 and qualified based on her rankings.

Alison Lee, 29, who has one previous Solheim Cup appearance, made the team based on her rankings. Thompson, at 29 years old, is a veteran with six previous appearances and was selected as a captain’s pick. Kupcho, 27, has two previous appearances and also earned her spot as a captain’s pick. Schmelzel, 30, is making her Solheim Cup debut and rounds out the team selected by Captain Lewis. The 2024 Solheim Cup promises to be an exciting event, with a mix of experienced players and newcomers ready to take on the European team in Virginia.
