The Wyndham Championship is known as the final tournament of the FedEx Cup regular season and attracts big names looking to salvage their season or secure a playoff run for future success. This year, Jordan Spieth, a three-time major champion, is at No. 63 in the FedEx Cup standings and needs to improve his world rank, which has dipped to No. 37. Spieth lost a playoff at the Sedgefield Country Club in 2013. If he doesn’t work his way into the top 50, he may need sponsor invites to play in his favorite events next season.

Other marquee names at the Wyndham Championship include Sungjae Im, Shane Lowry, Akshay Bhatia, Robert MacIntyre, Brian Harman, Keegan Bradley, Cameron Young, and Billy Horschel. These players are looking to protect their status in the Comcast Business Top 10 and improve their chances of finishing in the top 30 for a spot in the Tour Championship. The top 50 players will be determined next week in Memphis, making it crucial for players like Will Zalatoris, Harris English, Austin Eckroat, Nick Taylor, Patrick Rodgers, and Justin Rose to perform well at the Wyndham to secure their spots.

The Wyndham Championship is a pivotal event for players like Emiliano Grillo, Victor Perez, and Brendon Todd, who are battling to advance into the first of the three playoffs events. Lucas Glover, who won last year’s Wyndham Championship, is currently No. 76 in the FedEx Cup and still has work to do to defend his title the following week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Matt Kuchar, the only player to qualify for all 17 editions of the playoffs, enters the Wyndham Championship at 113th in the FedEx Cup standings and needs to make up ground to keep his streak alive.

Players at the Wyndham Championship are not only focused on the playoffs but also on earning spots in the Presidents Cup. The biennial event between the U.S. and the International Team will be held in late September, and the window for qualifying is closing. Regardless of their standings, all 156 players at the Sedgefield CC have something to play for at this final regular-season Tour stop. The event is significant for those looking to secure their playoff positions, improve their world rankings, and potentially earn selections for prestigious events like the Tour Championship and Presidents Cup. Players like Spieth, Im, Lowry, and many others will be aiming to make their mark at the Wyndham Championship.
