Lanny Wadkins to lead major renovation of 20-year-old PGA Tour course

TPC Craig Ranch, a private club located in the Dallas suburb of McKinney, is undergoing a major renovation to completely overhaul the existing course. Originally designed by Tom Weiskopf, the club has hosted a PGA Tour stop in Dallas for the last four years, with the tournament now known as the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The renovation aims to enhance turf conditions and durability by incorporating new turf varieties, bringing the course in line with the nation’s top facilities.

Renowned golf architect and 21-time PGA Tour winner Lanny Wadkins, a resident of north Texas, has been enlisted to redesign the course. Wadkins plans to build a course that will challenge the best golfers in the world during The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, while also providing a great experience for the club’s members throughout the year. The renovation will include redesigned bunkers, greens complexes, new irrigation, drainage, and improved turf varieties to create a more challenging course for tournament play.

In previous years, the winning scores at TPC Craig Ranch have been consistently low, with the winning score reaching as low as 26 under in 2022. After the renovation, the course’s fairways, tees, and rough will feature the grass TifTuf, allowing for firmer and faster playing conditions. Greenkeepers will be able to adjust the grass length for member play and tournament play, creating a more challenging experience for PGA Tour professionals during the event.

David Pillsbury, CEO of Invited, the club’s ownership group, expressed the company’s commitment to providing premier facilities through the renovation of TPC Craig Ranch. By constantly reinvesting in their clubs, Invited aims to ensure that their properties remain among the world’s leading golf destinations and deliver exceptional experiences to their members. The collaboration with Lanny Wadkins on the course redesign demonstrates Invited’s dedication to maintaining their position at the forefront of the industry.

Overall, the renovation of TPC Craig Ranch represents a significant investment in enhancing the quality of the course for both members and tournament play. With the expertise of Lanny Wadkins guiding the redesign, the new course is expected to challenge and impress golfers of all levels, while also solidifying TPC Craig Ranch’s reputation as a top-tier golf destination in Texas. The upgrades to the course’s infrastructure and turf varieties will ensure a premium golfing experience for years to come, cementing TPC Craig Ranch’s status as a standout facility in the golf industry.
