Lee Trevino Shines Again at the PNC Championship 2023

Orlando, Fla. – Legendary golfer Lee Trevino showcased his enduring passion for the PNC Championship, continuing his streak as the only player to compete in every edition of the event since its inception in 1995. Partnered with his son Daniel, Trevino’s performance on the course reinforced his significant love for this family-centric tournament.

Outstanding Performance Highlights

During the final round, Trevino and Daniel made a significant impact early on. The duo eagled the par-5 third hole and then extended their momentum with four consecutive birdies. However, it was Trevino’s spectacular approach shot at the par-4 13th hole that truly turned heads—he sunk a remarkable eagle from the fairway.

Reflecting on his shot, the 86-year-old golf icon humorously noted, "I’ve been digging for worms. I’ve got white birds following me, and I got them so fat they only followed me nine holes. That was a 60-degree wedge with a little draw. That was good."

Passion for the Game

After completing a remarkable final-round score of 62, Trevino shared insights with NBC Sports and Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis, emphasizing his unwavering enthusiasm for the sport.

“The reason I do this and the reason that I promote it and I play it like I do now is because the Lord, for some reason, gave me a tremendous amount of talent, and I’m going to meet him pretty soon and I damn sure don’t want him to be disappointed,” Trevino remarked humorously. “If he’s disappointed, I’m probably going to have to caddie for Arnold Palmer.”

PNC Championship History

Over his 26 appearances at the PNC Championship, Trevino has yet to claim victory but has consistently showcased his skills, achieving five top-10 finishes, notably tying for third place in 2020. His legacy in this tournament remains strong and cherished by fans and fellow competitors alike.

In conclusion, Trevino’s participation not only inspires his team but also energizes the spirit of the PNC Championship, solidifying his status as a beloved figure in professional golf.
